Dipping Snuff |
|
Dipping snuff is a purely American product that was created in the South and was used primarily by women. These snuffs were ground even finer than the English or European snuffs and resembled light brown talcum powder. The dipping snuffs were, and still are, classified as “Scotch” or “Sweet” snuffs and were used by taking a small stick or twig, chewing the end a bit so it softened and resembled a brush and “dipping” the moistened end into the snuff box. Users or “Dippers” would then rub the snuff on their gums to let the Nicotine absorb into the bloodstream. This method was extremely popular with ALL classes of women from the upscale socialites to the everyday housewife. While it’s popularity all but died out with the invention of the pre rolled cigarette, Scotch snuffs are making a comeback as a nasal snuff due to it’s high Nicotine kick and smoky tobacco flavor. |
